THE SEWN-BOARDS BINDING, A Variation /// One day 9 to 4 ~ $120.

This structure departs from the case bound book and introduces in-boards binding, where cover boards are sewn on, along with the text.

Priscilla worked closely with Gary Frost in the late 1980s at BookLab in Austin TX, when he designed this structure. It features a completely flat book opening, constructed with little adhesive, and a cover that is flush with the book text edges and requires no pressing. The Sewn-Boards Binding is now the basis of many contemporary artist books and small press edition.

The Sewn Boards Variation, will leave deckles or edges of sewn text untrimmed.

Prerequisite: None, but BOOKBINDING WARMUP is recommended.

One day, 9 to 4. $120, includes materials.

Note: The Sewn Boards Binding is considered as one of the introductory classes offered before more advanced work.

The Sewn-Boards structure allows for a flat text opening.
